Project 3: Perspective

Sometimes we have to walk away from something that is a important in our lives and it can be a very messy, unclear, and sad time in our lives. I once had to walk away from dance for a short period, but it felt like forever and it was the most devastating thing I can recall in my life. Through my art I wanted to show what I felt in that moment.

I was inspired by a water color piece done by Jean Pederson. I like the messiness of it and the way she created the piece. I played around with water colors to see how different methods worked and what I would use for my painting. This helped me prepare for my actual painting. I felt more comfortable using the water colors. I could go into my painting with more confidence.

Before, I went into my final painting, I drew a rough draft of what I wanted to paint. I also used some photos for reference of the face structure and shading.

Now for the my final draft. I used a big paint brush for most of the painting, but a few details such as eyebrows and eyelashes I used a small brush. I started with the light colors and then added in darker colors as I went. I had to start and stop a lot because my paper would get really wet. I liked to use the wet into wet technique the most. I did not finish the painting yet, but I hope to blur the background by spraying it with water. I also hope to make the girl with a tear down her face.

Update: I finished the painting. I dripped water down the background and the different dark shades were dripped over that. I did not add a tear on her face.

The drawing and painting one class was doing mono printing while I was working on this project. I decided to take one of my inspiration pictures and use it for a mono print. I used a small brush for most of it because there was tons of detail. I chose to change the color of the dress a little so it would stand apart from the hair. The background I blurred out and made it really dark. I did this to once again show there is something left behind. I wanted to make her kind of look lost. I also did a ghost pull which I personally liked better then the original because of the texture of it.

  4. I really like how you were able to take an experience and put it into art. We all express ourselves in many ways and I really like how you brought this concept together and expressed your self through this piece to show what you went through and how you felt at that point in time.

  5. I really like this! I really like how you started off this project with like a quote of your own and how you wanted to show that through your art. Your artist influence actually matched your art work and your message and end result of your project came out so good.
